Mislav Acman, PhD
CEO & Principal Consultant
In a nutshell, Mislav describes himself as a code writer with an analytical mindset, and science at heart. He is a dedicated bioinformatician with a broad expertise across many omics branches. When he is not tending to his tomatoes, you might find him doing some data gymnastics or over-polishing a piece of code. His academic journey took him through universities in London, Paris, Dallas, and Zagreb. During his research career, he worked on a variety of global challenges, addressing topics such as the spread of antibiotic resistance genes, microbial signatures of sepsis, evolution of SARS-CoV-2, and bacterial interaction networks. Mislav’s contributions to science are evident through his publications in esteemed journals.
Karlo Skube, MSc
Business Development Manager
Karlo is the most skilled wet lab expert on our team. He worked in various aspects of mammalian research, including stem cells, animal models, sequencing, 3D micropatterning, super-resolution microscopy, mass spectrometry, and more. He graduated Molecular Biology at the University of Zagreb and even devoted four years to doctoral research at the University of Helsinki before discovering that business is a more exciting and fulfilling career avenue. Karlo realized this aspiration when he joined Selvita, first as a scientist, and later transitioning to the business development department for the North American market. His unique blend of expertise enables him to effectively communicate our company’s values and offerings. Beyond his professional pursuits, Karlo finds joy in traveling, meeting new people, and savoring the flavors of local cuisines.
Ivan Pokrovac, PhD
Senior Data Scientist
As was the case for many of us, Ivan’s bioinformatics journey began in the lab. He started out working with yeast and mouse models before realising that crunching complex biological data was far more exciting. He earned his PhD at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb, where he published several cool research papers, and later joined the Omics team. Ivan has a particular knack for building scalable pipelines, designing data architecture, and developing reusable software solutions. His specialty lies in working with genomics and medical data. Ivan is also a skilled cook, especially fond of Japanese cuisine.
Nikolina Bukša, MSc
Bioinformatician
Nikolina comes from the beautiful island of Pag, nestled along the Adriatic coast. After earning her master’s degree in biotechnology from the University of Rijeka, she quickly realised that renting out rundown apartments to unsuspecting tourists wasn’t her cup of tea. Instead, she fell in love with bioinformatics. Proficient in both Python, R and who knows what, she completed several programming courses and software development projects before joining Omics. Curious by nature and a fervent traveller, Nikolina believes that new experiences broaden her perspective and sharpen her problem-solving toolkit. She often works odd hours and from obscure locations, leaving the rest of the team mildly concerned about her work-life balance — but for her, that balance is probably just perfect.
